Did you know that cherries can help alleviate muscle pain and aid in post workout recovery? Tart cherries and sweet cherries are very similar from a nutritional standpoint. Sweet cherries have anti-inflammatory properties thanks to a high concentration of anthocyanins, a group of phytochemicals that work as antioxidants and give cherries their deep red color. Like all antioxidants do, anthocyanins help combat oxidative stress in the body, which can certainly occur after putting strain on the body’s muscles during a particularly challenging workout or activity.
Cherries are low in calories, high in vitamin C, and rank among the top 20 foods with the most antioxidants.
